Wankers Dis J.T.

British rockers Kasabian have majorly dissed our homeboy, Justin Timberlake, calling him a “midget” and a “puppet.” “It’s just money music. Absolute rubbish. You can smell the money coming off it. He’s a k**bhead,” a band member concluded.

All of which leaves us wondering: Who the hell is Kasabian? To read it all, go here.

Beware of Greeks Bearing Picks

The highly touted U.S. basketball team, loaded with highly touted NBA stars, lost in the World Basketball Championships to Greece last night. Greece has no NBA players on its roster, but apparently it does have players who know how to run an exotic play called “pick and roll,” and burned the U.S. defense for 101 points.

Memphians hoping for a “Shane vs. Pau” final will have to wait for a Rockets/Grizzlies game to see that matchup. To read the whole sorry Greek tragedy, go here.

Memphis Represents at MTV VIdeo Awards

“There were so many parties lined up Thursday night, you needed a looseleaf binder with a full itinerary just to keep up. Justin Timberlake had Roseland jam-packed for a special late-night concert where he brought out T.I., Three 6 Mafia and Timbaland to perform. Meanwhile, Gnarls Barkley hit the stage just a few blocks away at the Blender magazine bash at Tao. …”

The MTV Video Awards after-party action was thick in NYC last night. To read all about it, go here. (It’s like a Michael Donahue column, only with real celebs.)

How Bookies Get Rich

“We are looking at an unbelievable 93 percent of the betting public on the side of Mississippi. At press time the line sat at -3 and we anticipated this one to move up a half point or more by game time in order to balance out the action.”

That’s how one gambling site describes the betting on the Ole Miss-Memphis game. If Memphis wins by four or more (we say they win by at least 10), there could be a lot of Rebel fans with skinny wallets standing around the Grove Sunday night.

Relief on the Way

Based on the 2006 Memphis Redbirds season (and Jason Isringhausen’s in St. Louis, for that matter), the thought of a lights-out closer in the Cardinals system might seem like so much fantasy talk. But St. Louis happens to have a pair of league-leading firemen in its farm system, prospects you may see at AutoZone Park merely a few months from now. Read about Mark Worrell and Mike Sillman here.
