John Michael McCarthy, the Memphis filmmaker behind such sexploitaton classics as Teenage Tupelo, The Sore Losers, and the magnificent (if somewhat sleazy) Supermarket A.D., has been invited to be the guest of honor in the cult-movie division of the 34th annual SITGES International Film Festival of Catalonia. Alas, being a guest of honor does not include airfare. The Memphis and Shelby County Film and Television Commission has begun a drive to raise necessary funds to send McCarthy to the festival, and we at Fly on the Wall applaud the effort. There just aren’t enough naked ladies in Spain, and if anybody can remedy this sorry situation, Mike McCarthy can.
