TOXIC SHOCK

The good folks who gave the world The Toxic Avenger will soon be promoting the celluloid handiwork of Memphis own trash-cinema king.

According to ndiefilms.com, an e-newsletter focusing on Memphis independent film community, local filmmaker John Michael McCarthy and

Chicago producer Mike Miller have signed a contract with Troma Films for exclusive international distribution rights to McCarthy s

sexploitation/fantasy epic Superstarlet A.D.

This has been described by its creator as a film where female beauty cults with machine guns in

search of ancient stag films hunt cavemen at the end of the world. The VHS and multiple-track DVDs of Superstarlet A.D. should be available in

stores by Christmas 2001.

By becoming part of the Troma catalog Superstarlet A.D. joins the ranks

of such Troma classics as Blonds Have More Guns, Buttcrack, Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters, Demented Death Farm Massacre, and, our personal favorite, Fat Guy Goes Nutzoid. It s not known whether or not Troma is following Hollywood s lead by devoting limited resources to the cultivation of prestige films, but compared to past Troma endeavors McCarthy s BIGBROAD production company might as well be Merchant Ivory.
