Two plays opening tonight: 2000 Tony Award Winner at Circuit Playhouse, and Copenhagen at Playhouse on the Square. And there are lots of art openings tonight. They are at: Lisa Kurts Gallery for sculpture by Thomas Ostenberg and gallery artists; Buckman Performing and Fine Arts Center for Cuban folk art by Wilfredo Rodriguez; David Mah Studio for works by David Blankenship; Perry Nicole Fine Art for works by Eric Barth and Gustave Blache III; and David Lusk Gallery for paintings by Frieda Hamm. There s a big Mphasis Music Event in Court Square tonight hosted by Mpact Memphis, the group of some 700 young professionals whose goal is to attract and keep young, talented individuals in Memphis; it s their annual membership kickoff party and includes live music by Snowglobe and a tba opening act. The New Ballet Ensemble is performing to selections from Sleeping Beauty, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, and Ancient Airs and Dances at Rhodes College s McCoy Theatre. There s a big Indoor Garage Sale today and tomorrow in the Pipkin Building at the Mid-South Fairgrounds. Elizabeth Taylor is at The Pyramid (just kidding; seeing if you were paying attention). Bill Heard and Alvie Givhanare at the new CafÇ Soul on South Main. The Distraxshuns are at Patrick s. And, as always, the super-duper Chris Scott Band is at Poplar Lounge.
