Both towers of the World Trade Center were hit Tuesday morning by apparently hijacked airplanes in what President Bush immediately called a terrorist attack. The Pentagon in Washington was hit by what seems to have been a third aircraft minutes later.The south tower of the World Trade Center subsequently collapsed, followed some thirty minutes later by the north tower, with incalculable loss of life.
