CHANCELLOR PEETE DIES SUDDENLY

Chancellor Floyd Peete, who was the judge of record in numerous important cases in Shelby County in recent years, died unexpectedly Saturday night in Pompano Beach, Florida,where he was vacationing. He was 55.

Chancellor Floyd Peete, who was the judge of record in numerous important cases in Shelby County in recent years, died unexpectedly Saturday night in Pompano Beach, Florida,where he was vacationing. He was 55.

Chancellor Peete, who was elected in 1990, presided over disputes ranging from election issues to the matter of sealed records inthe Kirby Pines Retirement Community case to the protracted legal struggle between the Mid-South Coliseum and the itinerant Memphis RiverKings. He was admitted to the North Broward Medical Center emergency room at approximately 8 p.m., E.D.T. and pronounced dead roughly an hour later.

Cause of death has not been officially announced by the Broward County Medical Examiner’s office but is presumed to be a heart attack. Further details will be provided as they are available.
