Former Shelby County assessor Harold Sterling could end up in a 2004 rematch with one former opponent whom he defeated or with one who beat him.
The former assessor filed for his old office on Thursday, as did incumbent assessor Rita Clark, who defeated Sterling in 1996. And former assessor Michael Hooks, whom Republican Sterling defeated for reelection in 1992, had already filed as a Democrat.Two Republiucans, Grady Frisby and Jim Bomprezzi, had previously indicated they would contest the GOP primary.
As Thursday’s filing deadline for the February 10th countywide primaries neared, one other rematch became possible: State Senator Roscoe Dixon, a Democrat, filed as a candidate for the office of General Sessions Clerk, an office he ran for unsuccessfully in 2000 against Republican incumbent Chris Turner.
