Joe Ford Jr. was an entertainment lawyer in California before arriving in our midst recently to launch his candidacy for Congress in the 9th District. He will do a star turn of sorts next week when, as co-producer of Flip the Script, an “urban romantic comedy,” he makes himself available for two showings of the movie at the Malco Studio theater in Overton Square. Ticket price for the film, which stars Robin Givens among others, is $20 a head.
Present for the evening along with Ford will be the film’s main producer, Tia Yoka McMillan. The two will answer questions after each showing, said publicist Patricia Rogers. First question: Why so much for a ticket? Next question: Is this a fund-raiser for Ford’s campaign? Rogers has already answered that one with no, though she said that, if all goes well, a sequel is in the works, entitled Mr. Ford Goes to Washington. She swears she isn’t kidding.
Speaking of flipping scripts, the plot of the film has to do with several college friends gathering at a friend’s funeral and reprising their relationships. Hmmmm. That sounds familiar.
