Rent-Free Pop-Up Shop Initiative to Return Downtown

A Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC) initiative that lets tenants temporarily turn downtown spaces into pop-up shops is coming back this spring.

Running from May until October, the OPEN ON MAIN initiative allows local makers and entrepreneurs to activate brick and mortars rent-free for a month or longer.

This year the two spaces available are 100 Peabody Pl, Suite 175 and 145 S Main, Suite 110.

The space on Main has about 1,637 square feet of retail space with two large storefront windows.

The Peabody location has around 1,700 square feet of retail space also with two store-front windows under awnings.

Open houses at both spaces are scheduled for Wednesday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and again on Monday, April 9, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The goal of OPEN ON MAIN, according to the DMC’s website is to enhance the pedestrian experience and support local retailers, while bringing attention to properties for lease in the downtown core.

The deadline to apply to be a tenant is ongoing, but applications submitted before April 1st will be considered first.
