Airbnb Marks Its Biggest Memphis Weekend

Airbnb notched its biggest-ever weekend in Memphis about two weeks ago.

Downtown hotels were full on May 5th-6th, Airbnb said in a statement, thanks to the confluence of the University of Memphis graduation at the FedEx Forum and the Beale Street Music Festival in Tom Lee Park. Many other guests turned to Airbnb.

The digital, home-sharing platform announced Monday that 2,650 guests stayed in an Airbnb that weekend, calling it “by far the largest influx of guests to Memphis in the history of Airbnb’s platform.”

State lawmakers protected short-term rental owners who work with companies like Airbnb earlier this year. Lawmakers passed a bill that would prevent cities from banning such rentals that have already been in business.
