Yesterday, the City Council’s budget committee discussed a resolution to encourage the Board of Equalization to consider foreclosures and bank sales on home values.
The move, proposed by councilman Kemp Conrad, was delayed by the committee but was meant to make sure that residents weren’t paying property taxes on inflated home values.
“Especially in these hard hit areas, you have a lot of homes that are selling for a lot less, but the assessor, by state law, can’t take those into account,” Conrad said.
