On my way back from the International Goat Days Festival on Saturday, I stopped by McCarter Coffee Company, the Millington micro-roaster. Jim McCarter offered up samples and a little bean talk.
McCarter, a former employee of the Shelby County government, founded the business in 2007 with his wife Debra.
“It was something that evolved,” McCarter says. He explains that after he and Debra visited micro-roasters while vacationing in places like Seattle or Hawaii, a thought occurred to him: “not a lot of folks are doing that around here.”
