Veteran Memphis business and political figure Jack Sammons has been named to the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority by interim Shelby County Mayor Joe Ford. Sammons, a longtime former city councilman, had served as interim city mayor Myron Lowery’s CAO during the several months of councilman Lowery’s tenure as mayor last year.

The six-member Airport Authority is appointed jointly by the mayors of Memphis and Shelby County and oversees operations of Memphis International Airport.

Sammons’ long governmental experience, coupled with his close relationship with FedEx founder Fred Smith, is expected to make him a major player as an Authority member.
