at the Hi-Tone Café
This week, the Hi-Tone Café hosts an interesting double bill, with roots-music siren Shannon McNally (along with her live band, Hot Sauce) sharing the stage with the up-and-coming local pop group Star & Micey. McNally, originally from Long Island, has deep roots in the Mid-South area. Hurricane Katrina brought her to north Mississippi in 2005 (first to Oxford and then Holly Springs) as a refugee from New Orleans, where she had lived and worked since 2000. The move led to correspondence and eventually a series of collaborations with the late legendary producer and Memphis musician Jim Dickinson. McNally provided backing vocals for Dickinson’s Killers From Space album, and her most recent studio effort, Coldwater, was recorded with Dickinson at his Zebra Ranch facility — one of the last projects he would helm before passing. The effervescent Star & Micey, fresh off of a two-week run of tour dates in the Southeast and gearing up for a similar run in the Midwest, will open for McNally at the Hi-Tone on Thursday, August 12th. Admission is $10.
