Sunday afternoon the Grizzlies faced off against the Pistons in Motor City. Memphis ran up a 19-point lead by the end of the first quarter, and Detroit was never able to recover, falling to Memphis, 122-112.
Let’s get into it.
With Steven Adams sitting out due to hip soreness, Brandon Clarke was moved into the starting lineup, and he did not disappoint. Clarke was a beast on the boards and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Ja Morant continues to be a playmaker on both ends of the floor, and when he is not getting buckets, he is setting up his teammates to score.
Please enjoy this monster dunk that Morant throws down, launching nearly from the foul line.
Jaren Jackson Jr. has shown no signs of slowing down since his return from injury. It looks like this is the next evolution of his game and it is already paying dividends for the Grizzlies.
As for Detroit, they have a promising young talent in rookie Jaden Ivey. Ivey is the son of former Grizzlies assistant coach Niele Ivey, who left Memphis to take over the women’s basketball program at Notre Dame.
They also have Saddiq Bey, who is apparently now a Griz killer. Bey came off the bench and led all Pistons with 24 points.
By The Numbers:
Ja Morant led all scorers with 33 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds, while shooting 3 of 7 from beyond the arc. He was Mr. 3rd quarter, scoring 21 points in the period and assisting on every other made basket. If there is something Morant can’t do, we haven’t found it yet.
Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks each put up 22 points and combined for 7 of the Grizzlies 15 made three-pointers.
Brandon Clarke finished with a double-double – 14 points and 14 rebounds. Clarke was the only Grizzly who did not make or attempt any three-pointers. Every other Grizzlies player had at least one three-point make.
All the Grizzlies starters scored in double figures.
Who Got Next?
There’s no rest for the Grizzlies, who return home tonight to face off against the Miami Heat. Tip-off is at 7 PM CST.
