Flurry of Fashion Events

Flip to this week’s Stepping Out section of the Flyer and you’ll notice Susan Ellis’ overview of the various fashion events sweeping through Memphis this month. We’ll give you the details here and add a few other events as well.

September 6th:

It’s the 4th anniversary of Fashion’s Night Out, and here are some ways you can celebrate.

South Main Fashion Night Out will showcase the multitude of boutiques and salons that have sprung up in South Main’s burgeoning fashion district in the last decade. Expect your favorite looks from K’Presha, Muse, Everleah, and more, as well as hair and makeup by Talk of the Town, Main Event, Chris Styles, and other South Main salons.The event benefits Ronald McDonald House and runs from 6-9 p.m. at The Rumba Room. Tickets are $15 in advance from participating boutiques, or $20 at the door.

On the same night, on the other side of town, Wish at Saddle Creek will host Fashion Night Out, a benefit for Friends for Life, featuring a fashion show, goodie bags, and door prizes. The party starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free but donations are welcome.

And at Carriage Crossing, participating boutiques present Fashion Night Out Gala, with a fashion show, door prizes, goodie bags, and a chance to browse offerings from center’s 75 merchants. From 6 to 8 p.m., guests are invited to a free showcase of local styles on this international night of fashion.

September 8th:

For a fashion show with a dramatic flare, stop by Ballet MemphisCostume Retrospective and Fashion Show at their headquarters at 7950 Trinity Road. The event marks the opening of the dance company’s 26th season and brand new costume shop. Doors open at 6 p.m., the fashion gets underway at 7 p.m., and guests are invited to stick around for a dance party and celebration. Tickets are $15 in advance, and $20 at the door.

September 12th:

For aspiring fashion designers, Memphis Fashion Week presents the Emerging Memphis Designers Project at Theatre Memphis from 5 to 6 p.m. Featuring five panelists, including designer John Sylvester of Sache, Catherine Walker from James Davis, costume designer Bruce Bui of Ballet Memphis, and others, the event will give up and coming designers information on how to participate in next year’s Memphis Fashion Week.
