Pyro’s Fire Fresh Pizza Now Open

On Sunday, I decided to drive by Pyro’s Fire Fresh Pizza on a whim to see if it was open — and indeed it was, had been for less than a week.

The restaurant, in the Park Place Mall Shopping Center, occupies a nice, open space with extra seating immediately at front in semi-enclosed patio with large windows that can be closed during colder weather. The main room is bisected by the bar, which also serves to create an orderly line to lead customers to ordering/prep area.

Pyro’s follows a build-your-own model, with no limit on toppings. Customers have an option of either an 11-inch pizza or a large salad for $8.30. They then choose from a list of 5 sauces or 7 salad dressings; 9 meat toppings; 17 veggies; and 8 cheeses.

Among the sauces are a traditional marinara and a spicy marinara, pesto, olive oil, and barbecue. Meats range from breakfast sausage and roasted chicken to bacon and steak. Veggies include roasted broccoli, spinach, corn and black bean salsa (!), caramalized onion, and roasted garlic. The cheese toppings are mozzarella, sharp cheddar, ricotta, feta, blue cheese, and pepperjack.

Pizzas and salads can also be topped with “finishes,” including spicy ranch dressing, green onions, blue cheese crumbles, and spinach.

For those who tend to get overwhelmed by too many choices (I do), there are specialty pizzas and salads. The Southwestern pizza features roasted chicken, the black bean salsa, roasted peppers, and the spicy ranch topping. The BBQ salad includes pulled pork, bacon, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and topped with barbecue sauce.

They also offer a gluten-free crust and Daiya vegan cheese for an extra $1.80.

I went very simple for my pizza: olives, peppers, and onions. The crust is thin, the basic marinara is a little sweet. No complaints here.

Pyro’s offers breakfast as well, and the menu features specialty coffees, egg skillets, and an egg pizza with bacon, sausage, mozzarella and cheddar, roasted onions, peppers, potatoes, and salad.

Even before the Ridgeway location opened, Pyro’s had a site selection for a second spot in Midtown, at 2037 Union. Estimated opening for this location is late December.
