Chancellor Jim Kyle
Jim Kyle, the former longtime Senate Democratic leader become Shelby County Chancellor, will be the —honoree? victim? — subject, anyhow, of the second annual Roast event sponsored by the Shelby County Democratic Party. Former Mayor Willie Herenton was on the spit at the party’s inaugural Roast a year ago.
Toastmasters for the event, a fundraising affair, are Knoxville attorney and former U.S. Senate candidate Terry Adams, and veteran local Democrat and City Hall employee TaJuan Stout Mitchell. “Roasters” will include state Representatives Antonio Parkinson and Larry Miller, former mayoral candidate
Deidre Malone, assistant City Attorney Regina Newman, Mike Kyle, political consultant Matt Kuhn, Bartlett banker Bobby Byrd, and wife Sara Kyle, now a candidate to succeed her husband in the state Senate.
Tickets are priced at $100, and contact person for the event is local party chairman Bryan Carson, 901-214-4617. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Select on Democrat Road this coming Saturday, October 18, at 7 p.m.
Last year’s Herenton Roast was something of a zinger, as former TV judge Joe Brown was emcee, unloosing candid and controversial remarks that foreshadowed his later campaign for District Attorney General.
Chancellor Kyle was elected to his new position in the county general election of August 7.
