Candidates Sought For Council Vacancy

Harrris

Candidates are being sought to fill the Memphis City Council seat to be vacated by council member Lee Harris on January 17, 2015 as he begins his term as state senator.

Candidates can be nominated by city council members, the general public, or interested parties, according to a Wednesday council notice.

Candidates must submit proof of residency, a sworn affidavit and a nominating petition with at least 25 signatures of registered voters living in District 7, which stretches from Harbor Town to Austin Peay Highway and Poplar to Frayser.

Candidate packets are now available at the council office inside Memphis City Hall. They are due back to the city council office by noon on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Those packets must be delivered to the council office by the person seeking the office.

The council will make a decision on the appointment by no later than Jan. 20, 2015.
