American Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and United Airlines are upgrading their aircraft, meaning more passengers will be able to fly out of Memphis International Airport to Miami, Denver, Chicago, and Houston.
American Airlines will replace its 50-seat aircraft that travels to Miami and Chicago with a 76-seat plane. Frontier is upgrading from 138-seat plane to a 168-seat plane for its Denver flights. And United Airlines will replace its 70-seat plane to Denver and Houston with a 50-seater.
The added seats, plus some additional frequencies to those destinations, will add about 407 extra seats per day for Memphis passengers.
“While these changes do not reflect an increase in the number of destinations, they do increase the number seats and flight frequencies to these destinations,” said Scott Brockman, president and CEO of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. “This is a positive reflection on the Memphis market, because it shows that the airlines see enough demand to increase supply.”
