City Hall Vandal Indicted

Gillard

The man arrested for throwing bricks and breaking windows at Memphis City Hall in March was indicted Thursday on one felony charge of vandalism.

Bernard Gillard, 48, of West Memphis, was caught on tape on March 20 when he walked up the front of city hall and began throwing bricks and breaking windows.

Gillard got away that day, according to authorities, riding on his bicycle. But he returned to city hall the next day and then again on March 25, both times he threw bricks, smashed windows, and rode away on his bike.

But Gillard was seen in surveillance footage all three times wearing the same thing — a tan hat, a blue jacket, and blue jean overalls over the jacket. Investigators found Gillard and he was booked into custody on March 26.

The Shelby County District Attorney’s office consolidated the three vandalism incidents into one felony charge of vandalism over $10,000. Gillard is being held at the Shelby County Jail.
