With the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. approaching, the City of Memphis announced Monday that it will provide funds for community events honoring MLK50.
The mayor, along with the city council, established the grant opportunities of up to $10,000 to support various programming and projects commemorating Dr. King’s death throughout the city.
City officials say the funds are reserved for activities that “impact the following priorities: poverty, youth, jobs/ economic development, community empowerment, nonviolence, and justice/peace.”
Applicants can apply through Sept. 30. Recipients will be notified by Nov. 1.
The grants come due in part to the City’s recently stated goal of “working to position Memphis as a global epicenter of positive change.”
