We’ve heard of the adopt-a-schools program. Now, Shelby Farms has adapted that idea and come up with a rather innovative way to raise funds.
“For years, buffalo have lived happily at Shelby Farms,” says a recent press release, “but housing and keeping them well is expensive.”
So park visitors are being encouraged to chip in $100 and adopt their very own buffalo. For their money, they’ll get an official adoption certificate, a stuffed buffalo toy, a refrigerator magnet, a photo of “your” buffalo (which we suspect will look pretty much like all the other buffalo). An added bonus is the photo will be signed by “Captain Hanna, the buffalo keeper.”
And we’ll just warn you in advance. You won’t be able to ride “your” buffalo, and don’t even think about bringing him home, like this fellow.
Oh, don’t worry about the details. If you want your very own buffalo, visit the Shelby Farms website.
