An arrest warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for Memphis firefighter Ronald Ellis, 51, who is suspected in Monday’s shooting in the Target parking lot on Colonial.
On Monday around 12:30 p.m., police responded to a shooting call at 601 Colonial. They found 33-year-old Torhonda Cathy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to Regional One in critical condition, but she later died from her injuries.
The police investigation has revealed Cathy was inside her vehicle when Ellis allegedly approached the driver’s side of her car and fired a gun at her. Cathy then attempted to run from the vehicle but was shot several more times by the suspect.
Ellis is believed to have fled the scene in a white 2014 Ford Focus with Louisiana tag number N365353. The investigation so far has revealed that Ellis and Cathy had been involved in a troubled relationship in the past.
Ellis has not yet been located by authorities. He is described a six-foot tall black man weighing around 250 pounds. Anyone with information on Ellis’ whereabouts is urged to call 901-528-CASH or the Memphis Police Department Homicide Bureau at 901-636-3100.
