Memphians, tourists, and all-around fans of Aretha Franklin made a pilgrimage to the singer’s birthplace, leaving flowers, posters, tiaras, and written tributes on the home.
Franklin died on Thursday. She was 76.
She was born at 406 Lucy in South Memphis. Preservationists have been working to save the home for the past two years.

MidSouthCon is a regional Science Fiction, Fantasy, Science, Comics, Costuming, Anime and Gaming Convention held annually in Memphis. It is Memphis’s longest running Con, having begun in 1982.

The walking dead gathered in Handy Park on May 26, 2017 for the 11th annual Memphis Zombie Walk. This family friendly event featured zombies of all ages (including some zombie dogs), and had special guests like Wonder Woman Zombie, the Scooby Doo Family zombies, and the Village People zombies. Participants collected canned goods for the Food Bank, and lurched and stumbled their way up Beale Street and then down South Main St all the way to the Arcade.

Hundreds and hundreds of Santas braved the wind and rain to collect toys for underprivileged kids in conjunction with Porter-Leath last Saturday night. The 12th Annual Stumbling Pub crawl began at the Flying Saucer, and from there proceeded down Beale Street to the Coyote Ugly, the Tin Roof, and to Jerry Lee’s.
