Visitors pour into Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid.

Turnstiles at Bass Pro Shops at The Pyramid cranked over more than 1 million times since the attraction opened its doors nearly three months ago, the company said in a news release Tuesday.

Nearly 35,000 visitors came through the doors at Bass Pro during its opening night, on April 29. The 1 millionth customer came through the doors on July 8, just 70 days after the opening. Bass Pro officials predicted the Downtown attraction would bring 1 million visitors in a year.

In 2011, Memphis government officials put up $197 million in bonds to retrofit the Pyramid and to redevelop The Pinch District. For its investment at the Pyramid, the city will get a rent payment of at least $880,000 in the first year and $1 million in the years after. Or, the city will get 2 percent of Bass Pro sales every year — whichever figure is larger.

Private companies like Bass Pro don’t have to publicly disclose sales figures. But local officials have predicted Bass Pro at the Pyramid to generate $2 million in sales each week. Bond documents in 2011 projected 2014 sales (which was slated to be Bass Pro’s first full year open) at $107.2 million.
