The Beale Street Merchants Association and Performa Management announced today that all merchants on Beale would post signs banning guns. The move was in response to last week’s passage of a bill in the Tennessee legislature allowing citizens with a gun-carry permit to take their guns to be taken into restaurants that serve alcohol.

Signs reading “No Guns Allowed” will be posted, beginning in July, said Performa CEO John Elkington. “We’re going to try to prevent people from bringing concealed weapons onto the street,” he said. Everyone entering the entertainment district will now be searched for weapons.
