Beer Busts

Back in the day, Summer Avenue was the happenin’ place for young guys and gals to catch a film at the drive-in or bowl at Imperial Lanes.

These days, it’s become a place where minors purchase beer and liquor. A “beer sting” conducted last week by the city/county Metro D.U.I. squad netted 10 businesses along Summer Avenue. Clerks at Exxon Tigermart, Rainbow Express, Tee Jays Liquor, the Shop-n-Save (next to Brown Jug Liquors), and others were caught selling to minors.

So far this year, the squad has conducted 20 such stings across the city, and 262 clerks have either been cited or arrested for selling alcohol to minors.
