On December 5, 2002, the DeSoto Appeal broke what is surely their most important story to date. The startling headline read, “Horn Lake Mayor Tires of ‘Big Yard.'” Astonishing as it may seem, Horn Lake’s mayor Mike Thomas has made the difficult decision to put his lakefront home up for sale. “I just don’t have time to keep up this big yard,” he told DeSoto Appeal reporter William C. Bayne, who, in Thomas’ defense,noted that the house does indeed sit on more than an acre of land. “I won’t miss cuting all the grass,” Thomas was quoted as saying. Concerning the actual dwelling, the mayor told Bayne, “I wanted to downsize the yard, but we might downsize the house,too….We’re just looking for what’s available, what’s affordable.” Do we smell a Pulitzer?
