Remember that time when you were nine and you got busted for stealing beer from the Piggly Wiggly? Or the time you ended up in juvie for beating up another kid on the playground? If this sounds like your checkered youth, the Victorian Village Community Development Corporation wants you to tell your story for an upcoming documentary on the history of the Shelby County Juvenile Court.
Applicants must be reformed adults whose lives were changed by their experience with the local juvenile court. The documentary will combine real-life stories with a history of the juvenile correction system through the Women’s Movement, the Progressive Movement, the Crump Era, and desegregation.
The documentary will premiere at the juvenile court’s 100th anniversary celebration this fall. People with a story to tell should send an e-mail with a brief description of their experience to info@victorianvillageinc.org.
