Jerry Lee Lewis’ 80th Birthday Celebration

‘The Killer’ himself.

On Saturday, September 26th, Jerry Lee Lewis will celebrate his 80th birthday at the Jerry Lee Lewis Café & Honky Tonk on 310 Beale Street. What began as a birthday kick off on September 7th at London’s Palladium, with Ringo Starr and Robert Plant serenading the legendary Jerry Lee Lewis with “Happy Birthday,” now returns to Jerry Lee Lewis’ hometown for a grand-piano-sized birthday celebration! The doors at Jerry Lee Lewis’ Café & Honky Tonk will open at 2:00 p.m., and the celebration continues into the night.

Joining Jerry Lee Lewis’ Café & Honky Tonk in the celebration are the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, located at Third and Beale, and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame, located at Second and Beale, both of which owe much of their stories to “The Killer,” and his iconic role in the birth of rock ‘n’ roll. check out a classic Jerry Lee video below.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Minglewood Hall

Eva Vermandel

This Friday, esoteric post-rockers (and pioneers of unique punctuation) Godspeed You! Black Emperor will play Minglewood Hall. The Canadian band was extremely active in the late ’90s before going on a hiatus for over 10 years, but it seems like the groundbreaking group is back in action. Currently touring on their latest album, Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress, Godspeed You! Black Emperor are joined by the two piece band Xylouris White on Friday night’s bill. Check out songs from each band below, then get to Minglewood Hall by 8 p.m. on Friday with $25 bucks in hand.

Dead Soldiers

Local country act Dead Soldiers released their first official music video a few days ago, and it’s for the song “Wicked River.” You might recognize “Wicked River” from the band’s All the Things You Lose album released in 2013. The video is part of the “Live From Cleveland Street Series”, so hopefully that means more videos are coming soon. Check out “Wicked River” below.
