Friday marks the first day of the summer solstice. And hey, it’s hot out there. Swimming pools will be filled with screaming, bratty kids this weekend, and folks at outdoor parties will surely reek of B.O. by the end of the night.
But you don’t have to stay at home under the AC to stay cool. Plenty of places have air conditioning. Here are a few:
The Orpheum Theatre promises cool seats during its traveling production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats. The show only runs through the weekend, so don’t miss it.
Shop for art, CDs, and books produced by local artists, musicians, and writers inside Mo’s Coffehouse during their Memphis Originals Artist Market on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Stay in tonight and speed read God’s Problem: How the Bible Fails to Answer Our Most Important Question Why We Suffer. Then show up at the Benjamin L. Hooks Library for the Memphis Freethought Alliances discussion of the book by Bart Ehrman on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Not into the atheist thing? No problem. Get closer to Jesus during the Sunset Travelers gospel performance at the National Civil Rights Museum on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Round out the weekend on Sunday inside the air-conditioned Circa where Chef John Bragg will prepare a Farmer’s Market Dinner, a five-course meal made with fresh, local produce and meats.
