Ask yourself these two questions: Do your co-workers laugh at all your jokes? If so, is it because you’re the boss and they’re afraid not to laugh?

If you answered “no” to the second question and “yes” to the first, you might want to consider a new line of work — stand-up comedian.

The Comedy, Tennessee club is seeking funny people from various professions in their eight-month long Memphis Comedy Search. On selected Wednesday nights, jokesters from a selected profession, such as doctors or airline employees, will compete for a spot in the finals. The overall winner, to be selected in March 2008, will win $300 and a guest set at the comedy club.

You’re eligible if you hold one of these positions: waiter, teacher, airline employee, college or high school student, computer tech, doctor, lawyer, city or county employee, media professional, healthcare worker, bartender, model, police officer, firefighter, or mechanic. Sorry zookeepers and gas station attendees, there’s no place for you.

The “funniest waiter” competition kicks off the contest on Wednesday, August 22. For more info, go to the Comedy, Tennessee website.
