Crosstown Arts Now Accepting Applications for Artist Residency

Crosstown Arts

Crosstown Arts, founding partner of Crosstown Concourse announced Wednesday it is now accepting applications for its expanded artist residency program.

Beginning with one resident as a pilot program a couple of years ago, the multidisciplinary art residency is now open to 16 local and visiting visual and performing artists, including musicians, filmmakers, and writers.

According to the application, there are no specific project requirements for accepted residents. Instead participants are “encouraged to experiment and explore new ideas or further develop current work already in process.”

At no cost, the residents will be able to access Crosstown Arts’ shared art-making space, which is scheduled to open in spring 2018.

The space will be equipped with a woodshop, laser cutters, a computer lab, a recording studio, and editing bays for video/audio production.

Residents also will be provided with housing and meals, as well as their own private studio workspace.

Crosstown Arts is offering three, 20-day summer sessions and one, three-month session in the fall beginning September 15. The first of the three summer sessions begins on July 11.

Additionally in the summer and fall, Crosstown Arts will offer its Withers Residency for one artist of color who addresses the intersection of race and social inequality in their work.

In the fall, a three-month residency will also be offered to an independent filmmaker to work with the Indie Memphis Film Festival team.

Applications for the summer and fall residencies will be accepted here through December 15.
