Doc’s Rare Whiskey & Chocolate Tasting

On Monday at Doc’s Wine, Spirits and More hosted a rare whiskey and chocolate tasting. Antique Collection Bourbons were paired with some of the finest chocolate in the world from Phillip Ashley Chocolates and To’ak. There was also live music, wine, and delicious hors d’oeuvres from Porcellino’s to kick everything off.

If I had to pick, my two favorite bourbons from the flight were an 18-year-old rye Sazerac and a 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle. The Pappy Van Winkle was nice and smooth as it went down. I was surrounded by a group of people that are a part of a bourbon club and they showed me how to properly taste all the bourbon. It was a lot of fun!

As for the chocolate pairings, they were delicious and creative! It was a limited edition holiday collection, so there was a bit of everything — Gingerbread Man (gingersnap maple), Spiked (rum egg nog), Winter Kiss (peppermint marshmallow crème), The Patch (pumpkin spiced latte), Checkmate (chess square truffle), and Santa’s Sleighed (pecan liqueur). I liked them all but loved the Winter Kiss — so refreshing.

Then I was fortunate enough to try To’ak. A single chocolate bar sells for $260 dollars. It was featured in Forbes as the “World’s Most Expensive Chocolate.” You don’t experience something like that every day, especially when Doc’s is only one of six places in the world that you can get it! It was what I was looking forward to all night.

There were 28 spots for this event and it sold out quickly. Join Doc’s newsletter at docsmemphis.com or sign up in their store to learn about more events like this in the future! Don’t miss the next one!
