Downtown Hotel Construction Project Delayed

Developers want to build a six-story hotel on this site close to South Main.

Developers now say that construction of a new Downtown hotel that sits on a long-vacant corner won’t begin until 2020.

Nimesh Patel, of Southaven-based Vance Holdings, plans to build a six-story Hilton Homewood Suites on the corner of Vance and Second. The hotel would be built on a vacant lot just west of Film Row and just east of the former Raiford’s Hollywood Disco.

Land Use Control Board

Consultants working with Vance Holdings said in a letter to city officials that “scheduling conflicts and timing overruns” on other projects in the Memphis area caused the delay.

The company will ask the Land Use Control Board (LUCB) for a two-year extension of a previously approved special use permit for the project. The LUCB will review the case during its meeting on Thursday, April 12 at Memphis City Hall.
