An interactive installation is coming to Memphis next week, as a part of the nonprofit Memphis Greenspace’ spring activation of two Downtown parks.
A portable recording booth called Truth Booth will be set up at Memphis Park on Tues., April 3rd from 2 to 6 p.m.
The purpose of the installation is to “amplify the voices of the public and provide an interactive platform for the nation to share their thoughts, ideas, dreams and truths about the upcoming election, or anything that inspires them,” according to the Truth Booth website.

“In an effort to capture and celebrate the world’s diverse people and their valued representation of ‘the truth,’ we believe Memphis Greenspace reflects the intention and relevance of open conversation in light of April 4th,” Greenspace president Van Turner said. “Amidst our work to lawfully remove Confederate statues in this very park before the MLK50 commemoration, we hope it will give Memphians an inclusive forum to speak some inspirational truth about how our city is looking forward and making progress.”
The project is a piece of the collective effort by nonprofit Memphis Greenspace, the Downtown Memphis Commission (DMC), and the UrbanArts Commission to activate Memphis and Health Sciences Park, following the December removal of Confederate monuments from the parks.
“We were especially mindful about the Truth Booth’s Downtown location because of its context within the larger MLK50 effort of which we are proud to support,” vice president of marketing and communications at the DMC, Penelope Huston, said. “We sought advice from the National Civil Rights Museum to determine the most appropriate place and are grateful of Memphis Greenspace’s enthusiasm to host the community surrounding this installation.”
The booth will make an additional stop Fri., April 6th, in Orange Mound at RedZone Ministries from 3 to 6 p.m.
Also this spring, the DMC is hosting weekly meditative arts classes at Memphis and Health Sciences Parks, which will run through September.
Weekly yoga and Tai Chi classes begin at the parks next week. At Health Sciences Park, a music series will kick off this Friday.
