Fly on the Wall

Naked Cities

The curious case of the Jackson, Mississippi, dirty billboards seems to have come to an end. The provocative Danny’s advertisements that read, “Strippers love to climb our pole,” have come down as mysteriously as they were — ahem — erected.

The phone number listed on the billboards belonged to Southaven resident Blake Owens, who described the ads as “edgy” but “kind of cute.” In spite of the endorsement, Owens, the son of Memphis’ incarcerated nekkid-bar kingpin Danny Owens, told reporters that he had nothing to do with either the strip club or the billboard.

Seventy-year-old Lila Davis, vice president of the Jackson strip club, told the Clarion-Ledger that Blake did, in fact, manage Danny’s day-to-day affairs and described the billboards as “a little gross.”

Pun[ishment]

The AP reports that some Memphis City Schools students don’t think their cafeteria staff can “cut the mustard — or the ketchup, for that matter.”

Calvin Jones of the food services division explained that the school buys condiments in bulk containers but “doesn’t have enough workers to put them into little plastic cups.” Mayonnaise in a real pickle, aren’t they? The school board can’t possibly relish the thought of paying for individually wrapped packages.

God’s Will

Clint McCance the Midland, Arkansas, school board member who resigned last week, says anti-gay remarks on his Facebook page made him seem like a “horrible person and that’s not me at all.” The kinder, gentler McCance says homosexuality is still against the word of God but rejects previous assertions that gay teenagers should “commit suicide.”
