Fourth of July Events

There’s lots to do on this Independence Day, so — sparklers ready! — let’s get started:

At Shelby Farms, it’s the Freedom Concert, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. ($5). This event will be sans fireworks, but there will be plenty of bang from the Ceremonial Navy Band, which will be performing patriotic songs.

Germantown is holding a Fireworks Extravaganza at Municipal Park, starting at 7:30 p.m. There will be music from the River City Concert Band, activities for the kids, and a fireworks finale.

Downtown, the Twilight Sky Terrace on the top of the Madison Hotel is holding a Fourth of July party from 7 to 10 p.m. ($35; reservations: 333-1243). On the menu are barbecue plates with a choice of a pork or chicken sandwich, plus chips, cole slaw, potato salad, and watermelon.

Guests at the Twilight should be able to view the fireworks show being held at the Mud Island Riverpark, which will be open all day for the Fourth. There will be games for the kids, and picnics are welcome.

It’s Red, White, & BOOM at AutoZone Park, when the Memphis Redbirds take on the Nashville Sound, starting at 6:05 p.m. Fireworks follow the game.

Finally, the Rebel on Beale summer concert series continues at Handy Park, 7:30 p.m. Tonight’s performer is Mark Chesnutt.
