Several art openings tonight. They are at: Delta Contemporary Arts Center in Marshall Arts Studio for drawings and sculptures by Emily Walls and paintings by the amazing Larry Edwards; Painted Planet Artspace for drawings of blues artists by Brent Harding (also features live music by Robert Wolfman Belfour, with proceeds benefiting The Blues Foundation); Lisa Kurts Gallery for Sense of Place, paintings by Kansas artist Philip Hershberger; David Lusk Gallery for Felt Not Seen, works by Allison Smith, and Abyssinia and Avalon, works by Marjorie Guyon; and down in Oxford at the Southside Gallery for works by Benny Andrews, William Dunlap, and Keith Fondren. Tonight opens the three-night run of A Life More Ordinary at Playhouse on the Square, the tale of a man confused about his normal life and his film-inspired fantasy personas. And now for the fabulous part: Leon Russell and Edgar Winter are at Gold Strike Casino tonight. Oh, but that I still had the wastebasket from my 1976 bedroom with a photograph of Leon decoupaged on it, there with the ceiling-hung fishnets, blacklight posters, sand candles, flying saucer-shaped stereo, and little plants growing the window. Ah, the American Dream. Down in Tunica tonight is the one and only Ms. Joan Rivers at Sam s Town. Sean Costello is at King s Palace CafÇ on Beale tonight. Just down the street, are at Rum Boogie. And, as always, the Chris Scott Band is at Poplar Lounge.
