Two art openings tonight. One is at Fresh Faces Hair Salon on S.
Florence behind Overton Square, for “Alone,” works by Michael J. Hildebrand;
the other is at Lisa Kurts Gallery, for “Beyond This Horizon,” works by
Jeff Muhs. At Circuit Playhouse tonight, there’s a candlelight vigil in honor
of Matthew Shepard after the performance of The Laramie Project,
a play based on interviews conducted in Laramie, Wyoming, where Shepard was
murdered in an anti-gay hate crime. If you want to take the kiddies out
tonmight, the Memhis Dance Theatre Company is performing Fary Tales &
Superheroes
, special performances from Cinderella, Peter & the Wolf,
and Superheroes.

Just down the street, Flickerstick is at the New Daisy. Epoch of
Unlight, Diarrhea of Anne Frank
, and DDM are at the Map Room.
The Distraxshuns are at Patrick’s Christian Yeager is at the
FullMoon club upstairs from Zinnie’s East. Mouse Rocket is at the Hi-
Tone. Yarmagata is at Newby’s. And last but certainly not least,
todaykicks off Arts int he Park, the annual festival at Memhois Botanic
Garden with an artist market, a juried art exhibit. Taste of the Town, special
children’s art projects, and live entertainment on five stages, including
Ballet Memphis, Nubian Theatre, Lily Afshar, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra,
and others.

Down in Tunica, comedian and Good Times star Jimmy ‘J.J.’ Walker
opens his three-night run at Bally’s Casino, while Alice Cooper plays
at the Horseshoe. And here at home, tonight’s GoGirlsMusic Festival at
the Hard Rock Cafe features performances by local female singers, songwriters,
and musicians, as well as giveaways and a silent auction; benefits the Nicole
Brown Charitable Foundation.
