Tonight s art openings are at: Java Cabana for works by Diane Thornburg; the Art Museum of the U of M for an MFA Thesis Exhibition; and Second Street Studio for a U of M BFA Candidates Exhibition. In theaterland, Spinning Into Butter opens at Circuit Playhouse; Into the Woods opens at Rhodes College s McCoy Theatre; and Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know opens at Germantown Community Theatre. Today kicks off this weekend s Chucalissa Spring PowWow at the Chucalissa Archaeological Museum, with Native-American dancing, food, traditional crafts, and more. Tonight s >Sofapalooza concert in the parking lot behind CBU s theater features Ingram Hill and Blue Tattoo (and let me just say that I purchased Ingram Hill s CD the other day and they are really somthing). Jazz great McCoy Tyner who The New York Times says is perhaps the most creative and influential pianist alive is at the New Daisy tonight with his trio. Nashville-based acoustic singer/guitarist Tom Smith is at Kudzu s. And, as always, The Chris Scott Band is at Poplar Lounge.
