friday, 25

It s the last Friday of the month, which means tonight s South Main Art Trolley Tour offers free trolley rides to the South Main Art District s numerous galleries, shops, and other businesses. And tonight s art openings are at: Painted Planet Artspace for The Poet of Color, works by Rob Hooper; Greater Memphis Arts Council for In Retrospect #2, Paintings, Prints, and Collages, by Everett Charles Yates; Durden Gallery for works by Rome Milan; Rhodes College s Clough-Hanson Gallery for Work on Paper by Thomas Nozkowski. Our Own Voice Theatre Troupe opens its production of The Momo s Curse at TheatreWorks, a play based on the life of Antonin Artaud. Today s big, big event is opening day of Arts in the Park at Memphis Botanic Garden, a weekend of music, fine arts, ballet, gourmet food, wine, stuff for the kiddies and much more. If I haven t conveyed this before, one of the most wonderful things to do on Friday night between 8 and 10 p.m. is to go sit upstairs and listen to Di Anne Price as she croons beautiful torch songs at her candlelit grand piano, with Chris behind the adjacent bar, one of the finest bartenders in town. It s like being in another world. And if you miss her there, she ll be playing with her Boyfriends at the Blue Monkey later. The Reba Russell Band is at Patrick s tonight and tomorrow night. And, as always, the Chris Scott Band is at Poplar Lounge.
