Plenty of art openings tonight. They are at: Art Farm Gallery for “Circus of Chaos,” works by Sam Higgenbotham, Jeremiah Harrison, and Jason; David Lusk Gallery for “Temenos” by Kathleen Holder and works by Bruce Brainard; Playhouse on the Square for “Urban Zoo” by Angela Goza; Perry Nicole Fine Art for works by California artist Tom Leaver; and at Lisa Kurts Gallery for “Memphis,” works and a book by Larry E. McPherson. After the opening at Playhouse, there’s a 2002-2003 Kick-off Party to announce its 18 plays for the upcming season, and, after that, Evita opens its run. At Theatre Memphis, it’s opening night for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. And, of curse, it’s night one of the big Memphis in May Beale Street Music Festival 2002; some of the choice picks on tonight’s lineup 00 The Isley Brothers, The Bar-Kays, The Reba Russell Band, and Delbert McClinton. If you don’t do crowds that huge, The North Mississippi Allstars are at the New Daisy. The Bloodthirsty Lovers and Snowglobe are at Young Avenue Deli. The Burnside Exploration is at Newby’s. The Eric Gales Band is at the Lounge. The Chris Scott Band is at Poplar Lounge. And down in Tunica, Creedence Clearwater Revisited is at Sam’s Town, while there’s a ’70s Soul Jam at the Grand Casino featuirng The Stylistics, The Chi-Lites, Cuba Gooding Sr., Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, and The Delfnics. Not bad at all.
