Two art openings tonight: One is at David Lusk Gallery for works by Jerry and Terry Lynn and drawings from the 1960s by famed Memphis artist Carroll Cloar. The other is at Disciple Gallery on S. Main Street for Further South: A Mission to Mexico, photographs of current-day Mexico by Craig Thompson. Back down in Tunica, Tiffany is at Bally s Casino tonight and tomorrow night. And back here at home, there s a Mark Selby CD-Release Party with Jenkins Dirt at The Lounge. Dahrius is at the Full Moon Club upstairs from Zinnie s East. The Gamble Brothers are at Young Avenue Deli. Now, having said all that, there is really just one place you need to be tonight. Chrisfest at Poplar Lounge is a two-night fund-raising, all-out, best of Memphis music, throw-down benefit for longtime Memphis musician Chris Scott, of The Chris Scott Band and Mudflaps fame. Chris had a really bad accident while working several months ago and this veteran Memphis musician and all-round nice guy needs our help. So tonight and tomorrow night, there s a huge fund-raising bash for him with a musical lineup that includes Jimmy Davis, Sonny Burroughs, John Kilzer, Dave Kosar, Gregg Hisky, Ross Rice, The Gabe & Amy Show, Thing-a-ma-jig, Eric Lewis, Harry Peel, Clint Wagner, Anthony Corder, Hal McCormick, RT Scott, Every Mother s Nightmare, Eric Gales, Jim Dandy, and many, many more musicians who are coming out to help Chris. If you don t go to this at some point in the two nights, your karma is screwed. You will wake up Sunday looking, talking, and thinking like George W. Bush. AND you ll be missing out some of the best music Memphis has to offer. Actually, this is what Memphis music is all about. Be there.
