for an exhibition of works by Mahaffey White; the other is at Askew, Nixon,
Ferguson Architects
, for works by Fred and Jo Rawlinson. Tonight s An
Evening of Soul: Roots, Rhymes, & Righteous Times
at the U of M College of
Communications and Fine Arts is a fund-raiser for the Erma L. Clanton
Communication and Fine Arts Fund, a scholarship for African-American students;
features entertainment and a gala reception Saturday hosted by Dr. Richard
Ranta and Isaac Hayes. Tonight s Live at the Garden performance at
Memphis Botanic Garden is Here s to You, Charlie Brown, 50 Great Years, with
David Benoit and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Tonight s Orpheum Summer
Movie Series is Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor in the role
that landed her the highest salary any female star had ever been paid for a
film performance, as it should have been. I have no idea who they are, but
Piston Honda, Shun, Dredge, and Spirit Fall are at the New Daisy
tonight. Cory Branan is at the Map Room. Afroman is at Young
Avenue Deli. Rubber Soul is at Newby s. And last, but certainly not
least, the legendary Alvin Youngblood Hart is at B.B. King s tonight,
where he will also be performing tomorrow night along with Don McMinn
and CYC.
