Plenty of art openings tonight. In Celebration of Spring: A Show of Public Works murals by Memphis artists Meikle Gardner, Jan Hankins, and Claudio Perez-Leon is being unveiled at Delta Axis Contemporary Arts Center at Marshall Arts Studio. There s an opening reception at Cooper-Young Gallery for a show of paintings by Beth McDaniel and sculpture by Tyler French. An exhibition of works by Kathleen Holder and Peggy Root and And then there was the bad weather , curated by John Weeden, opens at David Lusk Gallery. (Weeden will be hosting a gallery talk there Saturday at 11 a.m.) At the Art Farm Gallery of Fine Art, there s an opening for Erotic Paintings, work by Nashville-based artist Kimberly Fox. Samuel Hester Crone: Working Process of a 19th Century Painter opens at the U of M s Art Museum. And at Java Cabana, there s an opening reception for Legacy, Southern paintings by Taylor Bowen and Jeff Allen. In the theater world there are a couple of openings tonight: Chicago the Musical opens at Germantown Performing Arts Centre; and Godspell opens at The Orpheum. Down in Tunica, Wayne Newton is at Sam s Town, while late-night funny guy Jay Leno is at the Horseshoe Casino. Here at home, Sarah Pollack and Her Band are playing at the Deliberate Literate. Peter Hyrka and his Gypsy Hombres are at the Center for Southern Folklore. Stoned at the Moment, Deluded Princess Skared, Lappdog, and Phelon are at the New Daisy. The Tearjerkers and The Limes are at Murphy s. And The BoonDogs are at the Blue Monkey.
