Mississippi isn’t just known for magnolias. In Golf Digest‘s July issue, which ranks top golf courses in the nation, eight Mississippi courses are named or mentioned, two of them in Tunica.

The magazine ranks the three-year-old Cottonwoods Golf Course at Grand Casino among the “Top 40 Casino Courses in the U.S.” Designed by Hale Irwin, Cottonwoods is a par 72 course. More than half of the holes border water, and 80 traps along the Scottish-links-like rolling hills present significant challenges to even seasoned golfers.

Ranked by Golf Digest in another category — “Best Courses Near But Not owned By Casinos” — is the Tunica National Golf and Tennis. The 18-hole course has a six-hole par-3 practice course, a 20,000 square-foot clubhouse, circular driving range, and the Golf Training Academy.
