HOAX BUSTERS

A month after the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center we
here at Fly on the Wall are still being bombarded by e-mails containing
dubious information concerning the tragic events. Many of these false reports
have already made appearances in normally reputable newspapers and magazines.
A Web site dedicated to debunking hoaxes and so-called urban myths,
www.snopes.com, has already responded to a number of these e-rumors. Here is a
partial list of their findings:

  • The Nostradamus prophecy about the fall of “two brothers” (suggesting the
World Trade towers) is a fake.

  • 4,000 Jewish nationals employed by businesses housed in the WTC did not
call in sick on September 11th.

  • The photograph of an unlucky tourist posing on the observation deck of a
World Trade Center tower just before a hijacked plane hit the building is a
    fake.

  • CNN did not use old footage to fake images of Palestinians celebrating
    after the terrorist attack.

  • No person trapped high in the collapsing World Trade Center “surfed”
    falling debris to

    safety.

  • It is entirely false that blue envelopes fromt the Klingerman Foundation
containing sponges infected with a killer virus are being sent to random
    Americans.

  • No unburned Bible was found in the wreckage of the Pentagon.

  • Dunkin’ Donuts employees of Arab extraction did not celebrate when the WTC
    was attacked.

  • There is no reason to believe that Islamic terrorists will be frightened
away if American women take off all their clothes. But, hey, you just never
    know.
