An inmate walked away from trash detail Tuesday morning close to the Bill Morris Parkway exit ramp at river dale, according to Shelby County officials.

Jodie Pope, 24, left his trash crew at around 10 a.m., according to officials with the Shelby County Corrections Center. The crew supervisor said Pope “escaped through some bushes,” according to a news release.

Pope is serving a six-year sentence for robbery. Officials said he had no disciplinary issues while in custody and had completed a behavior modification program, which made him eligible for the work detail.

Pope is African American, is 6 feet and one inch tall, and weighs 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and and a light blue shirt with the letters SCDC printed in yellow letters across the back. Pope sometimes uses his middle, “Jodie Mansie.”
